Art
at South Side
From
the day South Side on Lamar opened its doors
the Creatives have been part of the foundation
for what it was to become. Noting that creative
artisans have led the redevelopments of major
urban areas around the world, Matthews Southwest
established relationships with artists, filmmakers,
writers, jewelry makers, architects, and interior
designers. From the artists' perspective,
to revitalize the soul of South Dallas, a
living network of people from all backgrounds
and walks of life must be part of the process.

The
Janette Kenndy Gallery History and
Procedure to schedule an Art Exhibit
The
Janette Kennedy Gallery, formerly the South
Side Gallery, was established in 2002 as a
means for local artists and the community
at large to exhibit their works. This Gallery
differs from other galleries in that it does
not administer a fee for use of the space
nor has it charged a commission on the pieces
an artist sells. The Janette Kennedy Gallery
gives the community artists the opportunity
to express themselves, where they might otherwise
have had a hard time finding exhibit space.
It offers the professional artists and national
exhibits a unique venue with character and
energy in soulful South Dallas. Read

Paul
Greco
By
using cut-outs from early childrens books
I try to portray how society in the 1960s would
have reacted to events occurring in the world
today. As a child, growing up in the 60s and
70s, life appeared simple and trouble-free.
As I grew I realized this was not reality. I
attempt to create a story or fairy-tale-like
image emulating life as being as difficult and
complicated in the past decades as it is today.
In a way, they show an awakening of my childhood
self as I realized more about the rest of the
globe.

Rolando
Diaz
In
the discovery of life we find ourselves looking
for the things we can relate to. It is this
thought that becomes the basis for the work
of Rolando Diaz, a native Cuban-American artist.
Diaz believes that, "art is an expression
of life". Everything we see, feel, touch,
smell and hear, in one way or another, become
part of the images expressed on the canvas.
